A Story Telling Workshop

The Early Improvisation workshops a very games based. Some improvisation groups use games and formats as the basis of their shows. Every good game however was designed to teach techniques, solve problems or alleviate our fears . A major stumbling block for everyone is sour fear of failure , a common fear based tendency is to kill stories. rather than develop them. It's natural for people to behave in improvisation as they do in life and get out of trouble as you see it coming.  In Drama audiences want to their heroes in danger and face the monster. Some games teach us about narrative.
One Word at a Time is a game where the whole group contribute in telling the story so we don't feel so exposed to feelings of failure because the group is  collectively responsible; and because we all "in the adventure together" we are more willing to face the monster and get ourselves into trouble. One word at a time story is a good vehicle for the impro teacher to explain some of the techniques of story telling.  Read through the workshop below and maybe try one word at a time with friends. I think you'll find it fun especially the last letter writing version and may encourage you to try a workshop with us.
